Matchmakers!

Mister and I have these two friends, Clay and Holly. I met Holly when I helped her move into a new apartment in DC about 5 years ago and we became good friends immediately. She's one of my favorite people in the world. Clay and Mister have known each other since junior high and are practically brothers.
Since Clay and Holly were both planning to come to our wedding, Mister and I decided to assign them to the same table at the dinner. I had a feeling they'd hit it off. Well, considering he proposed to her last Saturday, it's safe to say that they did!

I'm pretty sure that because Mister and I are responsible for them finding each other, we're owed a percentage of all of the wedding gifts they receive as a finders fee. That's how it works right? Congratulations you guys, we're THRILLED!

Ok...who's next?!

Self Portrait, road trip edition

So, because I neglected to take any pictures of the two of us during our trip, I made sure to take a few on our drive back home. The second was taken at the most lovely lake(?) ever. It was so peaceful and I loved all of the trees sticking up out of the water.

Port Aransas

We were lucky enough to escape H-Town for a few days to chill at the beach in Port Aransas with our friends the Campbells and Downs over the weekend. I took exactly three photos between Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. Probably because I was frantically finishing up the last 200 pages of my book "The Girl Who Played With Fire," which was awesome. We received a nice warm welcome in our turqoise home away from home by a trio of the biggest cockroaches I've ever seen. Thank you brave men for taking care of those for us.

We spent Saturday morning at the beach flying kites and frolicking in the waves, well everyone but me. I did nothing but read my book on the towel. I know I sound like a party pooper, but I promise I was having just as much fun as they were, not to mention it was the perfect way to avoid facing my fear of getting my face wet. We explored the island, rode the ferry a few times, regretted telling everyone that sometimes food moves me to tears, and laughed a lot over what happens when you cross a baby kite and a car antenna. Thanks everyone for such a fabulous trip. Let's do it again real soon!

The haps in pics

We've had many adventures lately, here's the picture tour:

DATE NIGHT!! Probably the first real date we've ever been on. We pretty much skipped that step when we met.

Can you guess what we did? (forget that I told you in a previous post)

my hot date

Screen on Discovery Green:

"Girl Shy" accompanied by a live orchestra. So fun!

Blue Bell Fun Run 5K:

we ran by pretty fields like this pretty much the whole way.

Post race photo shoot, self portrait edition. My freckles are coming out!!

post race photo shoot cont.

Cotton Gin Festival:

I swear that having old cars present at any small town festival is a requirement.

I think this is rad, but can someone please tell me what it is, exactly?

I thought I was catching them by surprise by taking this, but turns out they planned it this way.

In the belly of the cotton gin.

Saw this sign after some dude told us all about the cotton gin. Now I'm not sure whether or not the stuff he told us was true.

A tractor pull. I don't see how people find these things entertaining.

The only way we can get my computer to work without overheating after two seconds.

Not pictured: The international festival where we listened to awesome music (except for the New Orleans stuff, which I hate), ate bad food and watched crazy people dance.

running matters

I resumed my C25K program last week after a two week long absence and am so surprised at how quickly my body is bouncing back. I guess it's no year long break, but I was expecting it to be worse. I'm actually feeling awesome. It's still a struggle and the three minute intervals still feel like an eternity, but tonight I ran them .5 mph faster than I have in a long time. Go me!

I've downloaded so many awesome mashups lately Mister and I have been listening to them practically non-stop and they are my absolute favorite to run to. I think last year I offered to send a mix to anyone who wanted one and totally blew it, probably because of a preoccupation with a certain gentleman and a faulty laptop, but this year I have a computer that doesn't overheat on me and thanks to an absentee husband (this week at least) I actually have time to follow through. So...if you're curious about these mashups, need some new stuff to run to, or just like getting things in the mail, send me your address (you can find my email in my profile) and I'll mail you a mix by the end of the week. For reals this time.

weekend plans

Boy am I glad it's Friday! Work was a little bit crazy this week (which is semi-rare for someone as non-important as me) and I have been generally miserable with Mister being halfway across the world for work. Luckily he is flying over American soil as I type this and soon we will be reunited and I will listen intently as he tells me all about his adventures in Prague. Tomorrow morning I will get my hair cut and shaped into something other than the sleek (not in a good way) helmet it currently resembles. Tomorrow night is date night (perhaps our first...I'm not kidding) to see In The Heights, which I have heard great things about. I have a feeling it's going to be an excellent weekend. I hope yours is too!!!

Dear half naked gym rat,

While I applaud your self confidence, may I suggest that you reconsider going shirtless while lifting weights at the gym? Not only is it not attractive, but it's also unsanitary.

Sincerely,

a fellow (slightly sweat-a-phobic) gym goer

Easter wrap up

us in our Easter duds

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend. I was recovering from the worst allergies ever, so I didn't get to fully enjoy the beautiful weather we had, missing out on what would have been my inaugural bike ride. I did however have a great Easter. We had friends over for dinner, and Mister and I declared it a non-diet day. We enjoyed Easter candy for breakfast (the best kind), nachos for lunch and an amazing dinner (if I do say so myself). We have never felt so disgusting.

On a related note, other than our occasional "free" days, the diet is going incredibly well. In fact, at our meeting on Thursday, when the WW group leader told me I lost 4.8 pounds, I was convinced that she was going to follow it up with an exhuberant "April Fools!!" To my surprise, it was the truth! In three weeks I have lost 10 pounds and Mister has lost 9.2. Isn't that amazing? I don't expect that kind of loss to continue (in fact, thanks to our "free" day I will be lucky if I don't gain this week) it gives me enough motivation to continue.

My mom wanted to see a picture of the table I set (please don't tell me if I set the table incorrectly, I probably did), so here you go:
