Introducing

Baby Adele, the newest (and by far the cutest) member of our family. We're smitten!

I’m sensing a theme

The night we were married, Mister got really sick. We’re talking fever, chills, and other exotic symptoms. When we went to urgent care the next morning we learned he had the swine flu. He spent the weekend fighting that in bed while I watched TV downstairs. It was super romantic. Luckily that wasn’t our real honeymoon and we spent a lovely week in Mexico a few weeks later.

Cut to this week, and Mister is sick. Some fever, chills, the sweats, etc. He said the last time he felt like this was on our honeymoon. We’re headed in to urgent care this morning to see if we can find out what’s wrong with him. (Could it be the swine again?? Is that even still a thing??)

What else is happening this week? Oh, that’s right, I’m having a baby. I’m sure it’s merely a coincidence, but it sure does appear that Mister reacts to major life changes by getting super sick. Please cross your fingers that he is well enough by the time I go into labor (the Friday induction is sounding better and better) so that he can be there with me. I don’t know if I could do it without him.

40 weeks + 2

I’m still pregnant, not that I’m surprised. I was 1 cm dilated and 50 % effaced at my appointment on Friday, exactly what I was the week before, so we scheduled my induction for this coming Friday* (you know, 5 days away). However, I have felt more contractions than usual today (still not close or consistent though), so I’m still holding out hope that I’ll go into labor on my own before then. Cross your fingers for me.

I totally have pregnancy face!

*I could probably wait a bit longer for the induction, but because Mister is only here for a limited time, we thought it would be best to do it sooner than later so he has as much time as possible to bond with the wee one.

39 weeks (!)

I was thinking about how some women put together a playlist for their labor and delivery, and how it’s probably a lot of mellow stuff and how that wouldn’t help me one bit. If I were to listen to music I think it would have to be action movie soundtracks, like Danny Elfman’s Batman and Spiderman, as well as Gladiator. I had some of that stuff on one of my marathon playlists and you have no idea how motivating it is. A song from Spiderman was playing as I approached a big hill and it made me feel like a superhero. Maybe I’m a little strange, but it works for me.

Even though I have a family history of being overdue, I am still holding out hope that I can go into labor on my own, so we’ve been going on lots of (uncomfortable for me) walks lately. When Mister and I went to my doctors appointment, he told us that they don’t like to let women go one week past their due date, so if I haven’t gone into labor by my next appointment (next Friday…my due date), we’ll schedule my induction for the following week. Holy crap, it’s setting in, I’m going to be a mom in less than two weeks, no matter what. Crazy.
